Micro-factories Can Convert Electronic Waste Into 3D Printer Filament
Shenzhen Qihang Electronics Co.,Ltd | Updated: May 25, 2018

Recently to address this issue, Australian material scientists Veenasahajwalla and her colleagues have established the sustainable materials Research and Technology Center (SMaRT) to mitigate the growing environmental problems caused by e-waste accumulation, through micro-factories of robotics and automated technology components.

The electronic waste is converted into 3D printer filament, which is devoted to the disposal of electronic waste. Electronic waste is rich in precious resources, Veenasahajwalla introduced, they are now micro-miners. With Smart's patented central visual recognition program, the combination of robotic arms and automated drones divides e-waste into separate parts, such as glass screens, printed circuit boards, and plastic shells. 6,000 mobile phones can decompose about 130 kilograms of copper, 3 kg of silver, 340 grams of gold and 140 grams of palladium. And Australia has a large number of television sets, computers, tablets, mobile phones and other electronic devices were discarded.

” In these dismantled materials, metal alloys, composites, ceramics and micro-materials, which themselves have a certain market value, will be sold to the product recycling enterprises or equipment manufacturers, and other, including thermoplastics, we usually think of "rubbish", will be melted into 3D printing fiber and other high-value plastic products in low temperature environment.
